3 Things You Need To Know About SEO in 2016
Altek Media Group’s Digital Marketing Tips and Advice Series is meant to keep you informed on the latest SEO and SMO strategies.
As a new year begins, new rules surrounding search engine optimization have been enforced. Do you know what works and what doesn’t? It’s no secret that the # 1 way to locate a website is through entering a search term in a search engine, such as Google or Bing, and proceeding to click on a link from the search engine results page. This is why having an effective and current SEO strategy is crucial in today’s online business market. Before you begin updating your website with fresh content, you need to consider a few factors before you plan your SEO strategy. In order to ensure that quality websites are always ranking high, search engines have cleaned-house and have disqualified any kind of “easy” page ranking loopholes. Here are three tips to consider when planning your business’ online marketing strategy:
SEO Tip #1: All Search Results Are Personalized
Search Engines use algorithms that filter and determine what search results to display for each individual person and their own unique circumstance. What does that entail exactly? Let us take a look at five factors from which Personalization is based off of:
Location: Whether it is a location you report about yourself (like the city you live in on your Facebook profile), your IP address, or your GPS location- search engines have a way of identifying results that correlate with the location from which you are conducting the search.
Social Networks: When it comes to how a search engine uses personalization to filter results, your social networks play a big part in this too. This means all the activity you engage in on your social media platforms. For example, anything that you like, share, retweet or comment, including the type of networks you are registered for, along with social circles, which means even the people you connect and associate with on social networks are taken into consideration.
Search History: Previously visited search terms will influence your future searches. Be careful, if you share a WiFi network with someone at home or work- your searches along with anyone else’s on the same WiFi network will be remembered and will influence the search results page (so what I’m really trying to tell you is to be careful for what you search for too).
Device: Whether it is a smart phone, tablet, laptop, desktop or smart TV, different results will accumulate for each different device as well as the type of operating system the device uses.
Preferred Language: Yes, even what language you prefer to use on your device has an impact on what kind of search engine results you manifest. An example of this is simple, If you prefer to speak English than your results will be tailored to websites translated in English.
SEO Tip #2: On-Page Ranking Factors for 2016
On-Page SEO is the most important element for securing visitors and to keep them coming back. There are no loopholes or corners to cut here, you must implement a strategy. There are 5 factors that determine how well your On-Page SEO strategy is working.
Quality Content: Is your content relevant to search queries people can use to find your website? If not, make sure you begin to create content that is- the more useful content the better. Pictures and videos are the key to retaining a visitor’s interest in your website and services. Keep in mind, content is tailored to your industry-not your keywords- keep your content fresh and interesting.
Page Load Time: If your website takes about 5 to 10 seconds to load then you can guarantee heavy sighing and eye rolls from visitors on the other side of screen. No one likes waiting for a page to load, and neither do the search engines. SEO has a big part in how websites are being redesigned to more simple layouts. Apparently, a faster page load time will benefit your page rank on the search engine results page. Remember: Simple does not substitute a good looking website.
Internal Links: Internal links are simple links that take you from one page on a website, to another page WITHIN the same website. For example, a list or previous articles or pages relevant to a new post on your website, or links to previous videos released in a series your business is promoting. These are all ways you can use internal in order to keep your visitors from leaving your website.
Bounce Rates: The bounce rate is simply the time frame of when a visitor clicks a link on a search engine results page but then clicks the back button to choose a different result from the search engine results page. The shorter the bounce rate the more likely the search engines will decipher that your website might not be useful and in return establish a low page rank for your website.
Time a visitor Stays on Your Page or Site: Let’s hope that, after the initial search engine results page, your visitor has decided to not click back to the results page but rather, explore your site. There are several variables form this point that include; total time spent on site, number of pages visited on your site, the route they took to look at different pages on your site – the longer amount of time spent on your website, the more likely you are doing something right in regards to how useful your site is.
SEO Tip #3: Off-Page Ranking Factors in 2016
Off-Page SEO in is another factor that will determine how high your page will rank in the search engine results page. These factors play into how well you execute your On-Page SEO strategy. If you implement proper techniques, then these factors will fall into place and benefit your Page Rank. Now it is important to realize you have no direct control over these factors, you must predict what your visitors want and then the following will fall into place.
Click-Through-Rate: The click-through-rate, or CTR for short. It is the percentage of people who search for a particular result and click the option on the list. So in other words, how often are people searching the term “business advice” and clicking YOUR website’s link to find business advice? This percentage of how many choose your website over someone else determines your CTR. A high CTR, tells the search engines that you need to be higher up on Page Rank.
Social Signs: Social Media and Social Networking Sites have taken over digital marketing. Any outside social activity signs connected with your site or business will affect your place on page rank. The more shares, pins, posts, tweets and +1s, the better! Daily social media management is a sure-fire way to establish page rank. Promote yourself so others will too.
Backlinks: Back links are simple links from your webpage that link to ANOTHER webpage. Maybe it is a collaborative effort, advertising- as long as it is a link to a high quality and useful website.
